ประเภทของบายศรี
ในภาคเหนือจะเรียกบายศรีว่า "ใบสี", "ใบสรี" หรือ "ใบสีนมแมว" และจะเรียกพานบายศรีว่า ขันใบสี เพราะชาวล้านนาจะเรียกพานว่า ขัน แล้วเรียกขันว่า สลุง บายศรีแยกเป็น 4 ประเภท คือ

บายศรีหลวง
บายศรีนมแมว
บายศรีปากชาม
บายศรีกล้วย

ส่วนในภาคอีสานจะเรียกบายศรีว่า "พาบายศรี", "พาขวัญ" หรือบางท้องถิ่นเรียกว่า "ขันบายศรี" ในภาคอีสานจะแยกบายศรีออกเป็น 3 ประเภท คือ

พาบายศรี
หมากเบ็ง

ในส่วนภาคอีสานที่มีเชื้อสายของเขมรจะมีการเรียกบายศรีว่า "บายแสร็ย" ซึ่งแบ่งออกเป็น 3 ประเภท คือ

บายแสร็ยเดิม (บายศรีต้น)
บายแสร็ยเถียะ (บายศรีถาด)
บายแสร็ตจาน (บายศรีปากชาม)
เมื่อพูดถึง “บายศรี” เชื่อว่าคนไทยส่วนใหญ่จะรู้จักและคุ้นเคยเพราะพบเห็นบ่อยในพิธีกรรมต่างๆ แทบทุกภาคของไทย เช่น การทำขวัญคน การทำขวัญข้าว การบวงสรวงสิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ การไหว้ครูนาฏศิลป์ดนตรี และพิธีสมโภชพระพุทธรูป เป็นต้น ซึ่งพิธีกรรมเหล่านี้ล้วนต้องใช้บายศรีเป็นเครื่องประกอบทั้งสิ้น
