พิธีสงฆ์ หรือ พิธีเจริญพระพุทธมนต์ในงานมงคลสมรส เป็นพิธีกรรมที่มีพระสงฆ์เป็นผู้ทำพิธีให้ ซึ่งตามประเพณีดั้งเดิมนั้น การนิมนต์พระสงฆ์มาเจริญพระพุทธมนต์จะทำในช่วงเย็นของวันสุกดิบ ซึ่งเป็นวันก่อนวันแต่งงานหนึ่งวัน และในวันแต่งงานจะมีเฉพาะการตักบาตรร่วมกันในตอนเช้า แต่ในปัจจุบันนิยมทำพิธีกันในช่วงเช้าวันเดียวกัน เพื่อเป็นการประหยัดเวลาและสะดวกมากขึ้นสำหรับคู่บ่าวสาว โดยการลำดับขั้นตอนพิธีก่อนหลังนั้น ขึ้นอยู่กับธรรมเนียนนิยมในแต่ละพื้นที่ ที่มีทั้งการแห่ขันหมากก่อนทำพิธีสงฆ์ หรือที่ทำพิธีสงฆ์ก่อนการแห่ขันหมาก
การทำพิธีสงฆ์นั้น พิธีสำคัญ คือ การให้พระสงฆ์เจริญพระพุทธมนต์ ซึ่งสามารถทำได้ทั้งช่วงเช้าและเพล โดยคู่บ่าวสาวจะตักบาตรร่วมกันในตอนเช้า หรือถวายภัตตาหารเช้าหรือเพลก็ได้ หากเป็นการนิมนต์พระสงฆ์มาเจริญพระพุทธมนต์ที่บ้านหรือที่สถานที่จัดงาน นิยมทำพิธีในช่วงเช้าให้เรียบร้อยก่อนพิธีแห่ขันหมาก โดยในงานที่เป็นงาน มงคลอย่างงานแต่งงานเช่นนี้จะนิมนต์พระสงฆ์ 9 รูป เพื่อประกอบพิธี และเมื่อนับรวมพระพุทธรูปที่เป็นองค์พระประธานด้วยแล้วจะเป็นจำนวนคู่ คือ 10 รูป เพราะถือเคล็ดที่เลข 9 หรือ "เก้า" ที่เป็นคำพ้องสียงเหมือนกับคำว่า "ก้าว" ที่หมายถึงก้าวหน้า และหลังจากเสร็จพิธีสวดเจริญพระพุทธมนต์แล้วจะเป็นการตักบาตรร่วมกัน หรือถวายภัตตาหาร ซึ่งสามารถถวายพระและเณรได้ทั้งวัด ไม่จำกัดว่าต้องเป็นพระสงฆ์ที่มาประกอบพิธีเท่านั้น
