งานสี เป็นงานช่วยรักษา ป้องกันสภาพผิวของเนื้อวัสดุให้คงทน มีอายุการใช้งานได้ยาวนาน ทำให้ผิวงานมีความสวยงามยิ่งขึ้น งานสีจะเป็นงานขั้นตอนสุดท้ายของกระบวนการผลิต ลักษณะของผู้ที่จะเป็นช่างทาสี จะต้องเป็นคนที่ต้องใช้เวลาในการฝึกปฏิบัติงานจนเกิดทักษะ ความชำนาญเกี่ยวกับ เทคนิคขั้นตอนการทาสีหรือพ่นสี มีความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับสีหรือวัสดุอื่นในการเคลือบผิว ตลอดจนโทนสีต่าง ๆ ที่ให้ความรู้สึกที่แตกต่างกัน เช่น สีแดงให้ความรู้สึกร้อน สีฟ้าอ่อนให้ความรู้สึกกว้างสบายตา เป็นต้น ลักษณะการทำงานจะเป็นงานที่ต้องใช้ความละเอียดประณีตสูง การทาสีหากเป็นงานทาสีอาคาร ตึก ต้องใช้นั่งร้าน ทาสีในที่สูง ๆ ช่างสีจึงต้องเป็นคนที่กล้าทำงานในที่สูง

งานสีแบ่งออกได้ 2 ประเภท ดังนี้

1. งานทาสีปิดลายไม้ เช่นการทาสีหรือวัสดุอื่น แล้วมองไม่เห็นลายไม้

2. งานเคลือบผิวโชว์ลายไม้ เช่น การทาแลกเกอร์ เชลแล็ก ยูริเทน เมื่อทาแล้วสามารถมองเห็นลายไม้
